Foods making you feel sleepy at work

Ever felt drowsy or sleepy when you are supposed to be beating some work deadlines? Your meal could be the culprit behind this feeling.
No boss needs a sleepy head for a junior for we all know that sleep is a great enemy of productivity.
It also gets embarrassing in case your colleagues catch you sleeping when you aren’t supposed to be sleeping. You will become the laughing stock of the office or even worse, tongues will start wagging behind your back and word will be that you are incompetent.
Here are some of the foods that could be making you feel sleepy in your place of work:
 Milk and other dairy products
Dairy products are rich in tryptophan. Tryptophan is an essential amino acid which helps produce serotonin. Serotonin can be converted to melatonin which is a very good sleep inducer. Serotonin is also believed to give feelings of well-being which means comfort.
Oatmeal
Oatmeal is a healthy breakfast option. But just like dairy products, oatmeal contains melatonin an amino acid that also induces sleep.
Lettuce
Another sleep inducer is lettuce. Yeah, right from our gardens. Lettuce contains lactucarium which is notorious for sedative properties.
Carbohydrates
Foods rich in carbohydrates are also notorious sleep inducers. They produce insulin and high levels of insulin in your body can make you feel sleepy.
Bananas
Bananas are rich in magnesium and have a lot of benefits to the body. However, the same magnesium can lead you to fall asleep.
Honey
Honey contains glucose which is likely to cause the brain to shut down orexin a chemical that is responsible for keeping you alert.

7 Mind-Blowing Facts About The Universe To Put Your Ego In Check

Just consider for a moment that while Earth has an equatorial diameter of 7,926 miles, the Milky Way’s is about 621,000,000,000,000,000 miles.
“If your ego starts out, ‘I am important, I am big, I am special,’ you’re in for some disappointments when you look around at what we’ve discovered about the universe,” Tyson once said. “No, you’re not big. No, you’re not. You’re small in time and in space.”
Fortunately, studies have shown that, in addition to an ego check, taking the time to experience awe and feel small can make people happier and less stressed.
Below, seven facts from NASA that will blow your mind and bring you right back to Earth.

Our sun is one of at least 100 billion stars, just in the Milky Way. Scientists calculate that there are at least 100 billion galaxies in the observable universe, each one brimming with stars. There are more stars than grains of sand on all of Earth’s beaches combined.

In 1995, the first planet beyond our solar system was discovered. Now, thousands of planets orbiting sun-like stars, also known as exoplanets, have been found.

Suspicion of cholera in France: what we know about the flight from Algeria

At least 150 passengers on a plane from Oran were picked up at the Perpignan airport in southern France on September 5 because of a suspicion of cholera in an 8-year-old child. French nationality.
Some 150 people were taken care of, Wednesday, September 5 at the airport of Perpignan, in the south of France, because of a suspicion of cholera on an 8 year old child, in a plane coming from Oran, in Algeria, announced Agence France-Presse.
"A child is likely to carry cholera and will be evacuated to the hospital for examinations," said firefighters. The other passengers - 147 in total - and the crew members were on their side "in the process of evacuation" shortly after 3:15 pm after being held aboard a little over an hour. An episode of diarrhea occurred on board the plane, said the airport manager.
Joined by telephone by Jeune Afrique , the prefecture of the Eastern Pyrenees confirmed the case of suspicion on a minor. The child was evacuated to the hospital center of Perpignan for further examinations. Insofar as the disease is transmitted by air, "the other passengers have left the airport," said the communication cell of this prefecture. If the child's contamination is proven, the other passengers will be recalled for treatment, said the Health Directorate.
According to a statement issued by the prefecture, the plane should leave empty in Oran, where it will be disinfected.
The flight, which is operated by ASL, took off from Oran around 12.30 pm (local time) and arrived at the destination at around 14.00. ASL is not currently available for further information. According to The Independent , a doctor was dispatched on board the aircraft upon landing, after being reported by a member of the crew prior to disembarkation. The technological risks cell of firefighters would also be on site.
According to the newspaper Le Parisien, the French Ministry of Health has urged airlines to limit the risk of spreading the disease.
The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a warning on August 26 on the risk of cholera in Algeria. "Several cases of cholera have been diagnosed in the north and center of the country (Bouira, Blida, Tipaza, Algiers, Medea, Ain Defla), said the statement. The Algerian Ministry of Health and Population reports that a source in the Tipaza region is causing the contamination but that tap water will remain potable. In any case, it is imperative to pay particular attention to the rules of hygiene and safety in order to protect yourself from digestive contaminations or contact ".

The origin of the vibrio identified

The Algerian Ministry of Health reportedly identified Wednesday, September 5, the origin of the appearance of the vibrio in a water source of the Beni Azza River, separating the municipalities of Blida and Ouled Yaïch, west of the capital city. The cholera vibrio is said to have spread into the waters of this river, which crossed several localities and ended up in agricultural lands.
In 2012, the official agency APS already alerted of the danger that this river constitutes on the local environment and the health of the population. "30 km long, the wadi, which has its source in Chréa before reaching the wadi Mazafran, is a threat to the inhabitants of the towns of Blida, Ouled Yaïch and Beni Mered, that it runs south in the north, and especially for the residents of the precarious houses, erected along its banks, "wrote the agency at the time. The river in question, which houses a landfill, receives wastewater from the surrounding dwellings.

How We Plan To Create 100,000 Jobs In Nigeria — UK Govt

How We Plan To Create 100,000 Jobs In Nigeria — UK Govt

The spokesperson of the development agency of the British High Commission in Nigeria, David Smith, in a response to PREMIUM TIMES’ inquiry said the jobs would be created through UK government’s LINKS programme, an initiative to “power economic growth in northern Nigeria.’

The economy of northern Nigeria, particularly the north east region, is currently facing serious development pressures consequent upon ravaging insurgent activities by religious extremists, Boko Haram.

Apart from the devastation of physical infrastructure and economy in the region, millions of citizens, including women and children, have been forced to join the growing population of internally displaced persons as a result of herdsmen and farmers conflict.

Prior to her visit to Nigeria last week, UK Prime Minister, Theresa May, identified Nigeria as home to the largest concentration of the world’s poorest people, with the bulk of the population in the north region.

During the visit, the UK Minister of State for Africa, Harriett Baldwin, who led a business delegation to the business event as part of the visit, announced a new £70-million programme to create 100,000 jobs in Nigeria.

Ms Baldwin said the programme would raise the income of three million people from the poorest parts of Nigeria.

But, giving details on the programme, Mr Smith said the LINKS initiative is a seven year programme to commence in early 2019, aimed at supporting job creation and income generation for the poor, women and those living with disability in the three northern states of Kaduna, Kano and Jigawa.

He said implementation of the programme would be through a contracted service provider, which the UK government is currently out in the market to recruit, with the process already in the evaluation stage for the first bids.

The service provider, Mr Smith said, would propose and implement the details of the programme, apart from working with a range of partners, including Centres for Disease Control (CDC) and the UK Department for International Trade.

“The provider will also liaise with Nigerian agencies such as the Nigerian Investment Promotion Council (NIPC) and key international development agencies like the World Bank.

“In a practical sense, LINKS will work by using a range of approaches such as technical assistance to public and private sectors, targeted grant funding and fostering linkages between investors, financiers and firms.

“The programme will focus on three northern Nigerian states of Kaduna, Kano and Jigawa, with expectation that it has wider benefits which could spread to other northern states,” Mr Smith said.

On the types of jobs to be created under LINKS, he said these would be as varied and diverse as the people of Nigeria.

Apart from affordable housing, information and communication technology and even waste management jobs in urban, rural jobs would cover agricultural supply chain and processing jobs.

In terms of categorization, the spokesperson said 40 per cent of the 100,000 jobs would be reserved for women, while six per cent would go to people living with disabilities.

Besides, at least 20 per cent of the jobs would be created in small replicable business models, like franchises the middle class, diaspora and modestly wealthy can also invest in.

“So, it’s not just about big business or global leaders. It’s about real Nigerians,” he said.

Asked whether the initiative was part of a larger attempt by the UK government to help resolve the poverty situation the UK PM referred to in her controversial reference to Nigeria as home to the largest concentration of the world’s poorest people, Mr Smith said: “Yes, absolutely.”

He explained Ms May’s government believes the majority of the income improvements for the poor through LINKS would come from “identifying innovative technologies or business models that will improve competitiveness and productivity across multiple fields, in a way that ensures the poor share the benefits.”

Apart from testing these and other successful programmes, Mr Smith said they would help the entrepreneur or business who has developed the innovation to take it to the next level through attracting private investment.

Also, these innovations should expand and improve the lives of millions more as they spread across the northern part of the country and beyond.

“The LINKS innovation and investment programme announced by the Prime Minister is a huge step the UK Department for International Development is immensely proud of,” Mr Smith said of the initiative.

“Helping to raise the income of three million people and create 100,000 vital jobs will transform Nigeria for the better.

“For the people of Nigeria, LINKS means more, bigger and innovative firms creating jobs and raising incomes, both directly and through their supply chains, while generating higher revenues for taxation. Together, we can create a Nigeria fit for the future.”

7 needles was removed from a 3 year`s old stomach

The family of a 3-year-old Kenyan girl, Dorcas Chepchumba, who had 7 needles lodged in her stomach, can now heave a sigh of relief, as doctors Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret successfully removed the harmful metals, and further disclosed that she is now in a stable condition and responding to treatment.

The needles in the girl's stomach was discovered on Thursday, May 3, by doctors at Kapenguria Referral Hospital shortly after she was rushed to the facility after falling ill. Her grandfather, John Chepkokei, who spoke to newsmen said they do not understand how the needles got into the minor’s stomach.

It was gathered that the mother of Dorcas Chepchumba ran away after the baby fell ill and got married to another man, leaving the baby in the custody of her parents.

"The mother escaped because the child was sickly. She is now married to someone else. We used to give her pain killers and we took her to Center Kwanza Dispensary. We are stranded and we don’t know where to start from,” said grandfather, John Chepkokei Ling’aa.

According to x-ray scan images, five tiny metals were lodged the abdomen while two others were sandwiched between tissues on her back.  Her grandparents said they had initially thought the baby had been bewitched as she was staying with her mother and step-father, before they started taking care of her. Her grandmother said Chepchumba started complaining of abdominal pain, cough and fever and had been receiving medication at the facility for two days before the needles were discovered.
“Chepchumba was born well in a hospital. She has been with her mother but when she started being sickly, the mother ran away. I was left to take care of her. We thought that she was bewitched because the child doesn’t belong to the family where my daughter is married," Chepkokei said.

Trial of laurent Gbagbo and wheat

Trial of Gbagbo and Wheat: The defense of Laurent Gbagbo filed his observations after the Bensouda brief, and awaits the response of the Chamber

The Hague Friday, May 4, 2018 - Me Emmanuel Altit, lead counsel for President Laurent Gbagbo, filed the defense's observations before the judges after the brief of the prosecutor Fatou Bensouda, in accordance with the recommendations of the court's Trial Chamber International Criminal Court, according to a source close to the International Criminal Court.
In these remarks, President Laurent Gbagbo's lawyer addresses the issue of "no case to answer" and bases on which the trial in the case of Laurent Gbagbo and Blé Goudé against the prosecutor will continue.
"Only when the Defense is aware of the position of the Chamber as to the substance of the charges it will have to answer and when it has conducted the necessary inquiries, based on the decision of the Chamber, that it will be able to specify the modalities of presentation of its case ", specifies me Altit.
The defense also indicates the various steps that it plans to follow in order to provide an optimal presentation of its thesis.
These include:
- the ability to examine the Prosecutor's evidence as a whole, and above all to be sure that no new evidence will be added by the prosecution;
- the possibility for the defense to file a motion to exclude all or part of the charges ("no case to answer");
- to be able to present his case (whether he has lodged a "no case to answer" request or not, that the Judges have refused in whole or in part), that he should be given all the information available to the Prosecutor and that he may have kept by him, which has the obligation to disclose them to the Defense under Rule 77.
We will come back to this.
