TUBERCULOSIS - THE DEADLY DISEASE AND HOW TO HANDLE IT

Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious infection that usually attacks the lungs. It can also spread to other parts of the body, like brain and spine. A type of bacteria called Mycobacterium tuberculosis causes it.Tuberculosis is caused by bacteria that spread through the air, just like a cold or the flu. You can get TB only if you come into contact with people who have it.

A TB infection doesn’t always mean you’ll get sick. There are two forms of the disease:

1.Latent TB. You have the germs in your body, but your immune system keeps them from spreading. You don’t have any symptoms, and you’re not contagious. But the infection is still alive and can one day become active. If you’re at high risk for re-activation -- for instance, if you have HIV, you had an infection in the past 2 years, your chest X-ray is unusual, or your immune system is weakened -- your doctor will give you medications to prevent active TB.

2.Active TB. The germs multiply and make you sick. You can spread the disease to others. Ninety percent of active cases in adults come from a latent TB infection.

SYMPTOMS

The symptoms of tuberculosis (TB) vary depending on which part of the body is affected.

TB disease usually develops slowly, and it may take several weeks before you notice you're unwell.

TB that affects the lungs (pulmonary TB)

Most TB infections affect the lungs, which can cause:

a persistent cough that lasts more than 3 weeks and usually brings up phlegm, which may be bloody

breathlessness that gradually gets worse

TB outside the lungs

Less commonly, TB infections develop in areas outside the lungs, such as the small glands that form part of the immune system (the lymph nodes), the bones and joints, the digestive system, the bladder and reproductive system, and the brain and nerves (the nervous system).

Symptoms can include:

persistently swollen glands

abdominal pain

pain and loss of movement in an affected bone or joint

confusion

a persistent headache

fits (seizures)

PREVENTION

Here are some very important things you should do to prevent spreading your TB germs to other people: Always cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Some people cough less when they drink warm liquids. While at home, spend only a short time in rooms that other people use like the bathroom or kitchen.

TREATMENT

Treatment consists of antibiotics

Treatment isn't always required for those without symptoms. Patients with active symptoms will require a long course of treatment involving multiple antibiotics.

11 Effective Home Remedies For Tuberculosis

by John Staughton (BASc, BFA) last updated - October 26, 2020 Medically reviewed by Tamanna Sayed (B.Sc. Applied Nutrition) ✓ Evidence Based

The most effective home remedies for tuberculosis include the use of milk, pineapples, oranges, bananas, garlic, mint, walnuts, Indian gooseberry, green tea, black pepper, celery, gourds, sunshine, linseed, and winter cherry.

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by bacteria called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It usually attacks the lungs, but may also affect other parts of the body. It is easily transferred through the air when the patient sneezes, coughs, or through other means that germs spread. The disease historically called consumption due to the weight loss that accompanies it.

Today, alternative research has shown that there are many different ways to treat tuberculosis, or at least counteract the symptoms and allow your immune system to regain control. The medical treatment for tuberculosis is a long and difficult process with antibiotics and a high risk of complications. Therefore, if you want to complement your treatment with some of these natural remedies, you can significantly improve your recovery time. Furthermore, by maintaining a diet or lifestyle that includes these home remedies, you can greatly lower your chance of ever contracting tuberculosis.

Home Remedies for Tuberculosis

There are many effective remedies available for tuberculosis and some of them are described in detail below:

Vitamin D

Low levels of vitamin D in the body is associated with a higher risk of tuberculosis, according to a study published in the Journal of Clinical and Translational Endocrinology. A 2019 research published in the European Respiratory Journal, suggests that vitamin D may help in speeding up the treatment in multi-drug resistant pulmonary TB patients.

While more research is ongoing to understand the impact of vitamin D on tuberculosis, for maintaining good health it is always recommended to have sufficient vitamin D intake.

Vitamin D can be found in dietary sources such as eggs, fortified milk, fish, and cod liver oil. It is also called the sunshine vitamin as you can get it by basking in the early morning sunshine.

Bananas

Weight loss is one of the key symptoms that anyone suffering from tuberculosis faces. The addition of foods rich in vitamins, minerals, and calories such as banana may help manage weight. The leaves of the banana tree have also been found useful against the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria that cause tuberculosis.

Pineapples

A study published in the Journal ‘Der Pharma Chemica’ in 2010 found out that a mixture of raw pineapple juice, pepper, salt, and honey helped dissolve the mucus in the lungs of the patients suffering from tuberculosis. This may further help eliminate congestion of the lungs and nasal cavities. So slice up a pineapple or drink pineapple juice to naturally fight off TB.

Garlic

Research suggests that extract of garlic and garlic oil contains ajoene, allicin, allylmethyltrisulfide that exhibit antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. Though garlic’s allicin content is usually what gets the attention, in the case of tuberculosis, it is the sulfuric acid found in garlic that is particularly potent for the tuberculosis bacteria.

By steeping garlic in water and drinking it, or adding fresh garlic to your meals, may help boost the immune system and aid in preventing TB in the first places.

Gourds

Various types of gourds, including bottle gourds, may help in increasing immunity levels in those suffering from tuberculosis. However, more research is needed to establish the role of this vegetable against TB.

Honey

The use of honey may help provide relief from adverse reactions caused by anti-tuberculosis drugs in pulmonary tuberculosis patients, suggests a 2008 study published in Continental J. Pharmacology and Toxicology Research.

Mint

Aside from flavoring your cocktails or freshening your breath, mint may help break up mucus build-up in the respiratory tracts, allowing for clear passage of air. It also has immune-stimulating properties and antioxidants that can directly impact any infection in the body.

Crushed mint leaves can be steeped in a very potent tea that anyone suffering from TB may add to their daily dietary intake.

Indian Gooseberry

Indian gooseberry has been shown to effectively lessen the symptoms of tuberculosis, especially when pure gooseberry juice is mixed with honey and consumed. This coats the stomach and the respiratory tract and can offer relief from inflammation and discomfort, while also stimulating your immune system with its proven antibacterial qualities.

Oranges

The high concentrations of vitamin C and other beneficial nutrients such as antioxidants make oranges a very useful home remedy for tuberculosis. The saline action of orange juice can break up congestion in the lungs and respiratory tract and help lessen the amount of expectoration, coughing, and blood in the sputum.

Black Pepper

Although many people associate black pepper with sneezing, it is an anti-inflammatory substance, and it can also help to cleanse the lungs, reduce coughing, and eliminate pain and discomfort. According to a 2019 study published in Microbial Drug Resistance, piperine a bioactive compound from pepper showed promising activity against TB.

Green Tea

Some of the studies suggest that green tea may have the potential in aiding the prevention of TB. A study published in The International Journal of Biochemistry & Cell Biology suggests that green tea with its polyphenol content may have the potential to prevent TB. Another research conducted in 2017 suggests an association between the intake of tea (green tea and black tea) and reduced risk of active TB infection.

Disclaimer :TB is a very serious and fast-acting disease, so if you are suffering from extreme symptoms, you should see a medical professional. Discuss the options for alternative treatments including the above mention remedial measures with your doctor and design an effective treatment approach. You want to stay natural, obviously, but you also want to ensure your long-term health!

Fuel scarcity looms as violence stalls depot operations

IPMAN Chairman in Rivers State, Dr Joseph Obele, stated this on a programme on Rhythm 93.7fm

Obele noted that about 10 petroleum tankers had been attacked and destroyed nationwide by the protesters, although lives were not lost.

He added that if the situation doesn’t improve before stocked petroleum products ran out in filling stations, scarcity would be inevitable.

The state chairman said, “About 10 of our trucks have been attacked nationwide by protesting youths, although there have not been casualties.

“Supply and distribution of petroleum products haven’t really been smooth being that 90 per cent of our supply came from Lagos and there has been a skeletal supply schedule in Lagos for the past one week.

“Thursday’s case was worse, all the depots in Nigeria were shut down, we don’t produce these products, we buy from depots and tank farms and if these depots do not give us products, we fear that when we run out of stock, petroleum scarcity will happen.”

Obele, however, ruled out the possibility of the association embarking on strike, adding that such an action would only further worsen the suffering of Nigerians at these trying times

South-West Governors have raised the alarm over the infiltration, destruction and carnage in the region under the guise of #EndSARS protests.

South-West Governors have raised the alarm over the infiltration, destruction and carnage in the region under the guise of #EndSARS protests.

Chairman, South West Governor's Forum and Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, in a statement in Akure expressed concern over the hijack of the protests by some people, ostensibly to execute a destructive design.

Akeredolu in the statement said, "The protests started as genuine, demanding reforms and restitution. The current happenings across the South-West, especially Lagos State, have exposed dubiousness and complicity evidencing malice afore-thought.

"We enjoin our youth to rise to defend our land and people against the diabolical incursions ravaging our space. What do we stand to gain by destroying ourselves?

"We cannot continue to fold our hands and watch our heritage destroyed, and our people suffer.

"We must engage, constructively, all those whose dubious solutions to a social problem is the descent to anarchy. We appeal to them to 'calm down'.

"We commend the governor of Lagos State for his administrative acumen. We note his patience and understanding in the face of unwarranted provocation by agents of darkness. We stand, resolutely, with him at this trying period.

"We should not allow brigandage and wanton destruction of lives and property within our walls in the South-West."

The statement added, "This regression into savagery exposes our land as not only vulnerable but susceptible to vile manipulations by elements keenly anxious to annihilate the South-West and destroy our shared heritage.

"We are deeply concerned with the ease with which public buildings, utilities, police stations and investments of our people have been burnt despite the proximity of security agencies in those areas.

"We call on the heads of all security agencies to be alive to their obligations to defend the country. We charge the relevant security agencies to investigate all cases of violence to identify the culprits.

"We are particularly worried that 48 hours, after the unfortunate incident at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos by persons adorning military fatigue, there has been no definitive statement from the military authorities on the incident.

"Our anxiety becomes heightened by the categorical denial of the Governor of Lagos State concerning the deployment. No governor has the power to authorise the deployment of military personnel in Nigeria.

"We note, with great relief, the confirmation by the governor that no fatality was recorded at the Lekki Toll Gate incident based on visits to hospitals, mortuaries, both private and public.

"There were no doubt different levels of injury to persons arising from the incident at the Lekki Toll Gate.

"Consequently, we insist that full investigation be conducted to ascertain the veracity of the news items liberally circulated by some local media."

FULL SPEECH OF HIS EXCELLENCY, MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA ON THE ENDSARS PROTESTS, 22ND OCTOBER, 2020

ADDRESS TO THE NATION BY HIS EXCELLENCY, MUHAMMADU BUHARI, PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA ON THE ENDSARS PROTESTS, 22ND OCTOBER, 2020

Fellow Nigerians,

It has become necessary for me to address you having heard from many concerned Nigerians and having concluded a meeting with all the Security Chiefs.

2. I must warn those who have hijacked and misdirected the initial, genuine and well - intended protest of some of our youths in parts of the country, against the excesses of some members of the now disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

3. On Monday 12th October, I acknowledged the genuine concerns and agitations of members of the public regarding the excessive use of force by some members of SARS.

4. The choice to demonstrate peacefully is a fundamental right of citizens as enshrined in Section 40 of our Constitution and other enactments; but this right to protest also imposes on the demonstrators the responsibility to respect the rights of other citizens, and the necessity to operate within the law.

5. As a democratic government, we listened to, and carefully evaluated the five-point demands of the protesters. And, having accepted them, we immediately scrapped SARS, and put measures in place to address the other demands of our youth.

6. On approving the termination of SARS, I already made it clear that it was in line with our commitment to the implementation of extensive Police reforms.

7. Sadly, the promptness with which we have acted seemed to have been misconstrued as a sign of weakness and twisted by some for their selfish unpatriotic interests.

8. The result of this is clear to all observers: human lives have been lost; acts of sexual violence have been reported; two major correctional facilities were attacked and convicts freed; public and private properties completely destroyed or vandalised; the sanctity of the Palace of a Peace Maker, the Oba of Lagos has been violated. So-called protesters have invaded an International Airport and in the process disrupted the travel plans of fellow Nigerians and our visitors.

9. All these executed in the name of the ENDSARS protests. I am indeed deeply pained that innocent lives have been lost. These tragedies are uncalled for and unnecessary. Certainly, there is no way whatsoever to connect these bad acts to legitimate expression of grievance of the youth of our country.

10. The spreading of deliberate falsehood and misinformation through the social media in particular, that this government is oblivious to the pains and plight of its citizens is a ploy to mislead the unwary within and outside Nigeria into unfair judgement and disruptive behaviour.

11. On the contrary, both our deeds and words have shown how committed this administration has been to the wellbeing and welfare of citizens, even with the steadily dwindling revenues, and the added responsibilities and restrictions due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

12. Government has put in place measures and initiatives principally targeted at youths, women and the most vulnerable groups in our society. These included our broad plan to lift 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years; the creation of N75 billion National Youth Investment Fund to provide opportunities for the youths and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Survival Fund, through which government is:

a. paying three months salaries of the staff of 100,000 micro, small - and medium - enterprises,
b. paying for the registration of 250,000 businesses at the Corporate Affairs Commission,
c. giving a grant of N30,000 to 100,000 artisans; and
d. guaranteeing market for the products of traders.

13. These are in addition to many other initiatives such as;
a. Farmermoni,
b. Tradermoni,
c. Marketmoni,
d. N-Power,
e. N-Tech and
f. N-Agro.

14. No Nigerian Government in the past has methodically and seriously approached poverty-alleviation like we have done.

15. With regard to the welfare of police personnel, the National Salaries, Income and Wages Commission has been directed to expedite action on the finalization of the new salary structure of members of the Nigeria Police Force. The emoluments of other paramilitary services are also being reviewed upwards.

16. In order to underscore the importance of education in preparing youths for the future, this administration has come up with a new salary structure and other incentives for our teachers.

17. Let me at this point reaffirm the Federal Government’s commitment to preserving the unity of this country.

18. We will continue to improve good governance and our democratic process, including through sustained engagement.

19. We shall continue to ensure that liberty and freedom, as well as the fundamental rights of all citizens are protected.

20. But remember that government also has the obligation to protect lives and properties, as well as the right of citizens to go about their daily businesses freely and protected from acts of violence.

21. To our neighbours in particular, and members of the international community, many of whom have expressed concern about the ongoing development in Nigeria, we thank you and urge you all to seek to know all the facts available before taking a position or rushing to judgment and making hasty pronouncements.

22. In the circumstances, I would like to appeal to protesters to note and take advantage of the various well-thought-out initiatives of this administration designed to make their lives better and more meaningful, and resist the temptation of being used by some subversive elements to cause chaos with the aim of truncating our nascent democracy.

23. For you to do otherwise will amount to undermining national security and the law and order situation. Under no circumstances will this be tolerated.

24. I therefore call on our youths to discontinue the street protests and constructively engage government in finding solutions. Your voice has been heard loud and clear and we are responding.

25. And I call on all Nigerians to go about their normal businesses, and enjoin security agencies to protect lives and properties of all law abiding citizens without doing harm to those they are meant to protect. Let me pay tribute to officers of the Nigeria Police Force who have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty.

26. I would like to thank those state Governors, traditional and religious leaders who have appealed for calm and restraint. I also thank youth leaders who have restrained their followers from taking the law into their hands.

27. This government respects and will continue to respect all the democratic rights and civil liberties of the people, but it will not allow anybody or groups to disrupt the peace of our nation.

Thank you all. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria

See what happen to your hair and fingernails after death

Not for long. The gruesome idea of nails and hair continuing to grow on a rotting corpse is fascinating. But it’s a myth – at least if you’re thinking of luscious locks and long, curly fingernails growing inside a coffin.

Nails and hair may appear to keep growing, but this is because flesh shrinks as it dries out, retracting the skin to make the nails and hair appear longer. There is a little truth in the story though, because death isn’t an instantaneous process. When someone’s heart stops beating their brain cells die very quickly, but cells that use less oxygen can live a little longer. So potentially hair and nails could grow a tiny bit after the brain is dead

Why I was taken to White House underground bunker – Trump

Why I was taken to White House underground bunker – Trump
Published 3 hours ago on June 3, 2020 By Wale Odunsi

United States President, Donald Trump, has spoken on his brief stay at the underground White House bunker.

The facility is called Presidential Emergency Operations Center (PEOC).

It serves as a shelter and communications center for U.S. Presidents and others in case of an emergency.

Trump was taken there by the Secret Service Friday night as protesters of George Floyd’s death gathered outside the White House.

The American leader, wife and son were reportedly in the bunker for a little under an hour.

But Trump has explained that he went there for an “inspection”.

He dismissed reports that the reason was for protection from protesters.

“It was much more for the inspection. I was there for a tiny, little period of time. They said it would be a good time to go down and take a look because maybe sometime you’re going to need it”, he told Fox News Radio.

Trump reiterated his threat of military action in New York if the protests persist.

“If they don’t get their act straightened out I will solve it. I’ll solve it fast,” he said.
